Road Network Of Saudi Arabia
According to the report of the World Bank the road network of Saudi Arabia has been ranked in the first position based on its connectivity.
Inspection and Maintenance of the Roads
An area of 5000 km has been effectively covered by the maintenance of the roads by the Roads General Authority and all these roads lead to the Holy sites. Around 9000km of roads have been inspected to examine their current condition. Maintenance of roads such as the installation of 9000 linear meters of concrete, and metal barriers and stripping of around 700 km of road has been extensively carried out. The 35,000 missing warning and Guide signs along the roads have also been installed for the guidance of pilgrims. Bridges along the road have also been inspected and 1,000 linear meters of expansion joints have been repaired.
Moreover, Road Crew has removed 400,000 cubic meters of the sand dunes for the safety of the pilgrims and to ensure a smooth road trip for them. These arrangements are part of the projects by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focused on enhancing the road network around the country. It is a vital project as it aims to boost the connectivity of the roads with the Holy Sites.
These improvements aimed at various aspects included resurfacing 158 kilometres of roads, cracks and potholes fixation at 403 locations, around 2,361 kilometres of road shoulders being trimmed, 1,240 cubic meters of sand dunes being removed, and cleaning valley streams at 421 sites.
Road Projects is Part of Hajj 2024 Preparations
Eng. Bader Al Dalami, Acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads, surveyed the roads for close analysis and conducted an inspection of around 2,000 km of roads. These roads in particular lead to the holy sites and include key routes like the Riyadh-Taif highway, linking the capital with Taif, and the Taif Al-Sail road. These roads are crucial for pilgrims as they would be travelling frequently on these roads during Hajj.
It is hoped that all these efforts will be useful to make the Hajj 2024 more convenient for the pilgrims and will make their holy journey easy and comfortable.
